Sunsets

November 16th 2006 00:31
Sunset, is the time at which the Sun disappears below the horizon in the west. It should not be confused with dusk, which is the point at which darkness falls, some time after the beginning of twilight when the Sun itself sets.

The red hues of the sky at sunset and sunrise are caused by Mie Scattering. This is one of the reasons that sunset is considered the most beautiful time of day, and why sunsets are so often photographed. The pictures below are a nice collection of sunset photos from around the world. You can see many more here.

That second last one is something else.

I've seen alot of breathtaking sunsets, but an ominous one.

Great shot!

I didn't take any of these particular sunset shots, I just thought I would share them with you all.
I love the second one but the colours may have been photoshopped a bit.

These pictures are beautiful. Sunset and sunrise are my most favourite times of the day. There is just something so amazing about the two times. Sunrise denotes a fresh new start and when you watch the sun coming up over the horizon you almost feel inspired to do anything with that day.
Sunset is when you can feel relaxed and watch as the day slips away and hopefully be happy with what`s filled its hours.
I come from Africa where sunsets are the best you will ever see. If anyone wants to see something truly inspiring sit with a nice cool drink on a houseboat overlooking the Zambezi River with the hippos washing away the heat of the day, the elephants playing with their babies in the shallows and the sun painting amazing scenes across the sky. Very inspiring!

Ian,

They are all breathtaking, especailly the second one and I love the ominous sunset (as Stuart put it), can I print a couple out for my wall in the office?

Were they taken in any special place on the earth...?

Thank you for sharing them...

Lilla,

The photographer uploaded them to a website to share with the world and gave the website permission to do with them as they wish.
That website has given me permission to use them as well, so yes you can print them out it you wish.
As for the locations of the photos, unfortunately I am unable to determine that information.
