Solar Eclipse

August 20th 2008 11:47
Full solar eclipse in the desert. Camel in the foreground

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes in front of the sun blocking some of its light reaching the earth. Eclipses can be partial or total. Total eclipses were a frightening phenomenon for those living in ancient times as the sun would disappear suddenly during the middle of the day. In modern times people will travel long distances to view these rare and spectacular occurrences.
