Ring of Brodgar
November 12th 2008 01:22
Located in Orkney, Scotland, the Ring of Brodgar sometimes spelt Brogar is a henge and stone circle 104m in diameter making it the third largest in Britain. The exact age of the monument or its purpose is unknown, however it was most likely constructed between 2500 - 2000 BC. There are 27 stones standing today of the 60 originals.
The area surrounding the Ring of Brodgar is also of historical importance. There are other stones, mounds and tombs. Excavations have uncovered many buildings, bones, tools and even a huge wall. Thanks to damncoolpics for these images of the ring.
