2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony for the 2008 Olympic Games was held at the Beijing National Stadium known as the birds nest. It commenced at 8pm local time on the 8th day of the 8th month in 2008. The number 8 is considered lucky in China.
Ancient Chinese art and culture dominated the ceremony with over 15,000 performers involved. Many observers are hailing it as the most spectacular opening ceremony ever.
The Opening Ceremony lasted for four hours and cost an incredible US $300 million to put together.
Former Chinese gymnast Li Ning lighted the Olympic flame at the end of the ceremony.
