The Milky Way

The Milky Way, sometimes called simply the Galaxy, is the galaxy in which our Solar System is located. While very significant to us, it is actually only one of billions of galaxies in the observable universe.
The Milky Way galaxy, as viewed from the Earth appears as a hazy band of white light in the night sky originating from stars and other material that lie within the galaxy.
The image below is a 360-degree full-sky panorama which is a composite of 30 images taken two years ago in Death Valley, California. This location was chosen as it is one of the darkest in the USA.
