Guide Dogs For The Blind
January 26th 2011 01:45
As reported on Vivaboo, basic things most of us take for granted such as the ability to see or hear are not available to all.
For those who do not have the gift of eyesight, there are guide dogs which can give them many of the freedoms they may otherwise be without.
Below are some pictures and stories of guide dogs and the people they assist. Click the link above to view the full article.
This is Quyn Le and Nugget. Quyn Le was blinded at the age of 2. She arrived in Canada as a refugee in 1989 and since then has managed to get a masters degree and aspires to be a counsellor to help others.
This is Robin and his guide dog. Here you can see Robin speaking in front of an audience at FOWA (Future of Web Apps). According to the individual who took this photo, apparently he gave a pretty good presentation.
This “test track” is designed to help owner and guide dog learn how to work together. The owner learns which commands to use and gets familiar with how her guide dog will direct and cue her to certain obstacles, etc.
This is Keith and his guide dog, Whitney. Keith is a Cal State Fullerton graduate and in this photo he was apparently giving visually-impaired students a tour to show them that college life is accessible to them.
This six-month old puppy is in training so that someday he too can be a full-fledged guide dog.
