Art Forgeries

The National Gallery of Art in London is full of histories great masterpieces. However, throughout time it has been deceived into purchasing works of art which aren't entirely what they seem.
Rather than be embarrassed by or hide these works, the gallery is organising an exhibition, open from June 30 to September 12, 2010. It’s entitled “Close Examination: Fakes, Mistakes and Discoveries” and will feature fakes, remakes, and copies of old master paintings which have previously fooled the experts. Makes you wonder what works may be added to this collection in the future!
A work originally credited to Sandro Botticelli who worked as an assistant to Andrea del Verrocchio called The Virgin and Child with Two Angels, has since turned out to be the work of at least two artists in the studio, due to the differences discerned in its painting style.
