Egg Decorating

December 24th 2007 13:45
Egg decorating is the art or craft of decorating eggs. It is quite a popular art/craft form because of the attractive, smooth, oval shape of the egg. We've all seen painted egg shells before, but what about sculptured egg shells? Take a look at the Egg Shell Art below, simply amazing!

Crop Circles

December 5th 2007 10:30
Crop circle is a term used to describe patterns created by the flattening of crops such as wheat, barley, canola, rye, corn, linseed and soy. Examples can be found world wide. Various hypotheses have been offered to explain their formation, ranging from the naturalistic to the paranormal. Naturalistic explanations include man-made hoaxes or geological anomalies, while paranormal explanations include formation by UFOs. Many circles are known to be man-made, such as those created by Doug Bower, Dave Chorley, and John Lundberg, and a 2000 study into circle hoaxing concluded that 80 percent of UK circles were definitely man-made.
Bower and Chorley were awarded an igNobel Prize in 1992 for their crop circle hoaxing.
Below are a huge range of cop circles, click on the image to open it in a larger window.
Are these man made or something else?

Fountains

June 6th 2007 11:44
A traditional fountain is an arrangement where water issues from a source (Latin fons), fills a basin of some kind, and is drained away. Fountains may be wall fountains or free-standing. In fountains sheets of water may flow over varied surfaces of stone, concrete or metal. Basins may overflow from one into another, or the overflow may imitate a natural cascade. Many fountains are located in small, artificial ornamental ponds, basins and formal garden pools, and often they include sculpture.

One of the most common features of a fountain, if there is enough pressure, is a jet or multiple jets, where water is forced into the air under pressure to some height

High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDR) Photos

February 28th 2007 09:43
In computer graphics and photography, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI) is a set of techniques that allow a far greater dynamic range of exposures (i.e. a large difference between light and dark areas) than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention of HDRI is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to the deepest shadows.

Information stored in high dynamic range images usually corresponds to the physical values of luminance or radiance that can be observed in the real world. This is different from traditional digital images, which represent colors that should appear on a monitor or a paper print

X-Rays of Sword Swallowing

November 22nd 2006 02:40
Sword swallowing is a performance art, in which the performer inserts a sword into her or his mouth and down the esophagus towards the stomach. The name given to this art is technically misleading, as performers have to suppress their gag reflex and not actually swallow while the sword is down their throat. Fewer than 200 performers exist worldwide, some of whom are members of the Sword Swallowers Association International (SSAI). Sword swallowing is a life threatening activity, and many deaths and serious medical complications have arisen from attempting this feat.

The art of Sword Swallowing so amazed one doctor they had a performer come in for some x-rays while the sword was in their esophagus. The resulting x-ray pictures are below, some more can be seen here

Pakistani Decorative Trucks and Buses

November 14th 2006 02:18
Loudly decorated trucks and buses are commonly found in Japan and Pakistan. In Japan decorative trucks are called Dekotora or Decotora, which is an abbreviation for "Decoration Truck".
Decorative trucks and buses commonly have neon or ultraviolet lights, extravagant paints, and shiny stainless or golden exterior parts. These decorations can be found on both the cab and the trailer, and not only on the exterior but also in the interior. The decorations may be created by workers out of their work vehicles for fun, or they may be designed by hobbyists for special events. They are sometimes also referred to as Art Trucks and Buses.
