Underwater Photographs

December 31st 2008 10:39
Taking good photographs underwater is not easy. Not only do you need to know how to dive, but it takes very specialised equipment. The water itself also creates problems with bad lighting and colour.
Despite these obstacles, skilled photographers can create pictures like you see below.

Motion Blur Photography

December 24th 2008 11:27
If an object moves while its picture is being taken then streaking will occur. This is because cameras have a shutter speed which might range from a few seconds to a few microseconds. Faster shutter speeds reduce the chance of streaking but it's impossible to remove it altogether.
However, photographers can use this motion blur to their advantage and create stunning images using slow shutter speeds. Some excellent examples are below. These are from Smashing magazine and you can see many more fantastic motion blur images here.

Hangboarding is the latest sport to hit the ski slopes. Invented in 2001, hangboarding involves a T-Shaped bar which fits to a standard snowboard. The rider is suspended from this mount in mid air via cables and rides the hangboard similar to a hang glider. This feeling of weightlessness and speed is apparently quite an extreme feeling.
