August 29th 2008 11:26
It's hard to be surprised anymore when you hear what they're building next in Dubai.
Now it’s the longest Arch bridge in the world, at a length of 1.6 km and 64m wide. It will have 6 lanes of traffic in each direction with a total capacity of 20,000 vehicles per hour.
Known as the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Crossing, or simply the Sixth Crossing it will cost almost US $1 billion as part of a huge road project near The Lagoons real estate development. The bridge will open in 2012.

Save The Children

August 29th 2008 03:02

Enjoy life how it is and as it comes
Things are worse for others and is a lot better for us.

There are many things in your life that will catch your eye but only a few will catch your heart....pursue those...

Third world countries - Does studying annoy you - Not them.

Famine - hate vegies? They starve from hunger!

Save the children. Do your parents care for you? They don't have any?

African children - Bored of the same games - They have no option!

Poor children - Someone got you Adidas instead of Nike? They only have one brand!

Poverty stricken children - Aren't thankful for a bed to sleep in? They'd wish not to wake up!

Are you still complaining?

Observe around you and be thankful for all that you have in this transitory lifetime.

We are fortunate, we have much more than we need to be content.
Let’s try not to feed this endless cycle of consumerism and immorality in which this “modern and advanced” society forgets and ignores the other two thirds of our brothers and sisters.

Let us complain less and give more!

Monsters of the Deep

August 22nd 2008 07:45
The section of the ocean known as the sub-photic zone is the area in which absolutely so light penetrates. This is the most inhospitable place on Earth, with complete darkness, minimal oxygen, extreme pressure from the water above, almost freezing temperatures and little or no food except rare pieces that float down.
Believe it or not, some creatures survive in the deep dark depths of the ocean. The severe conditions they must endure has caused them to adapt and adopt strange skeletal structures to withstand the pressure, large eyes to make use of any light that makes it through and many are even hermaphroditic to avoid the need of finding a mate. They have also adapted to survive on very little food and oxygen.
The results are creatures that look nothing like animals which live where sunlight and oxygen are plentiful, to us they look more like something from an alien movie!

As Fun Fun Fun points out, they may not be the size of the Loch Ness Monster, but they certainly look as frightening!

Solar Eclipse

Full solar eclipse in the desert. Camel in the foreground

A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes in front of the sun blocking some of its light reaching the earth. Eclipses can be partial or total. Total eclipses were a frightening phenomenon for those living in ancient times as the sun would disappear suddenly during the middle of the day. In modern times people will travel long distances to view these rare and spectacular occurrences

White Lions

White Lion
Adult White Lion

Regarded as divine by locals, white lions first came to public attention in the 1970s in Chris McBride's book The White Lions of Timbavati. White cubs occasionally turn up among tawny lions in the Timbavati and Kruger National Park regions in South Africa. Because the white gene is recessive and is masked by the normal tawny colour, white lions remain rare in the wild and only occur when two lions carrying the mutant gene are mated together. The greatest population of white lions is in zoos where they are deliberately bred for colour.

Shadow Art

August 11th 2008 14:27
Shadow art is extremely painstaking and precise. If you saw these artworks in plain daylight they would be completely uninspiring and you would have no idea their true purpose. Perhaps that is what makes them so impressive when shown off in correct light.
